SCA Consulting – Digital Solutions
SMB Law Group is based out of Richardson, TX and specializes in legal services for small and medium-sized businesses, ensuring tailored, comprehensive legal solutions for diverse business needs.
Prior to the involvement of SCA Consulting, their accounting team followed a manual and time-consuming monthly task of generating Attorney compensation reports. With the old process it was difficult to make quick changes when discrepancies arose and took time to reformat the exported files in Excel.
The SMB Law Group is a rapidly expanding law firm in the US who was looking to automate their payroll and attorney distribution calculations.
SCA Consulting developed and deployed a cloud solution in Azure which included Azure Function calls to their CRM, database setup, reporting in Power BI, and automated report distributions via email.
The SMB team was able to save time reconciling their month-end attorney distributions and was able to view their progress and KPIs in a Power BI dashboard with data pulled from the cloud database.
SCA Consulting was engaged in the fall of 2023 to automate SMB Law Group’s monthly compensation reporting.
After deployment in January 2024, we significantly reduced time to compensation calculation, distribution, and payout to the Attorneys. Accuracy of compensation calculations increased, and SMB Law Group felt more comfortable in the payout determinations.
SMB Law Group continues to use this system today, and we look forward to our continued work together.
SCA Consulting built a function app deployed on Azure to pull transaction records and key information from each case in the client's Clio platform to perform the compensation calculations.
Data pulled from Clio followed modern security protocols (OAUTH2) and was stored in an Azure SQL Server. Compensation calculations happened at this stage and our database tables worked to standardize data.
Power BI automatically pulls data from the SQL Server enabling real-time updates while an API connection to QuickBooks Online pulls cash records to be reconciled. Adjustments can now be made in Clio and refreshed in Power BI with ease.
At month end, the data collected from Clio is sent to Microsoft Power BI Report Builder, which handles pagination and builds each Attorney distribution report by client for the month. We included details like YTD, Totals by Client, and a breakdown of compensation percentages.
With the click of a 'Distribute' button, the .PDF reports saved in a SharePoint folder are packaged up and sent for director approval followed by Attorney approval via Power Automate flow. Once approved, all completed distribution reports are saved in a SharePoint folder for historical records.
